The Illinois Society

2008 JROTC Outstanding Cadet

and

the 2008 National Society Outstanding Cadet:

Cadet Major Amber Johnson

Carver Military Academy, Chicago

Major Steven Rouse, USA (Ret) Military Science Instructor

The Illinois Society Sons of the American Revolution Junior ROTC Program is pleased to award Cadet Major Amber Johnson the Outstanding Cadet Award and to announce her selection by the National Society as the 2008 Outstanding JROTC Cadet.  Cadet Johnson will receive a $1,000 scholarship as part of her National Society award.

"This is the Society's highest award presented annually to a truly outstanding Junior ROTC cadet," Joe E. Harris Jr., Executive Director, Sons of the American Revolution.

Cadet Johnson holds a 4.14 grade point average and is ranked #2 in her high school class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and does volunteer work in an after-school program, as well as at her church.  She is a member of the JROTC Drill Team and has been awarded the JROTC Leadership ribbon. Cadet Johnson was highly recommended by her military science instructor, Major Steven Rouse, who wrote: "I have served 22 years as an Army Officer and I can honestly say she is one of the finest Cadets I have ever had the pleasure of working with."

Carver Military Academy is the first public high school to convert to a full Army JROTC academy.
It is also the largest Army JROTC academy in the United States with over 700 cadets.  The Chicago Public School system has more JROTC units and cadets than any other school system in America.

Cadet Johnson received the Illinois Society Outstanding JROTC Cadet medal at a formal luncheon meeting of the Fort Dearborn Chapter, which sponsored her nomination.  Cadet Johnson was able to attend the meeting with her lovely mother and two sisters and Major Rouse, as Fort Dearborn President Bing Seibold holds her medal and certificate just prior to its presentation.
