Charles and Eleanor Schweizer American History Teachers Award

The Illinois Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, whose mission and objectives are patriotic, historical, and educational, wish to identify, recognize, and commend Outstanding Social Studies Teachers.
Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarship

Open to all Eagle Scouts currently registered in an active unit who  have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application. (The application year is the calendar year, 01 Jan. to 31 Dec.) The year that Eagle was awarded is not restricted. College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.

 

The Illinois Society awards a $500 scholarship to one Eagle Scout who then is invited to compete for the national cash scholarship.

Three national cash scholarship awards are given: 

 

1st place - $8,000.00; 

2nd place - $4,000.00; 

3rd place - $2,000.00.

George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest

A nationwide contest designed to give high school students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) an opportunity to explore events that shaped American History. The contest was named for the George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest in honor of their generous gift to the SAR to support it.

 

1st Place - $2,000;

2nd Place - $1,000;

3rd Place - $500

 

$200 State Award for First Place;

$100 for Second Place; 

$50 for Third Place.

1st-Michael Rotsch,  Bloomington   University High School, (Bronze Good Citizenship Medal)

2nd-Joseph N. Howard, Lemont High School

3rd-Adam Kaufman, Milford Christ Lutheran High School

Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest

Contests for an original oration of not less than five minutes nor more than six, dealing with the Revolutionary War period.  

 

1st Place - $3,000;

2nd Place - $2,000;

3rd Place - $1,000;

All other finalists - $300;

All other national contestants - $200.

 

$500 cash award to Illinois State winner

ROTC/JROTC Recognition Program

This award is presented by a Chapter, State Society, or National Society to ROTC or JROTC cadets who are selected for having a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing and general excellence.  

 

$1,000 National Scholarship & All-Expense Paid Trip to SAR National Congress; Medal Award for each high school nominee

Americanism Elementary School
Poster Contest

The Americanism Committee is pleased to announce a National Americanism Poster Contest directed at students in the 4th or 5th grades, depending on which grade year the American Revolution is taught in their educational system.  The topic for the Poster Contest will be set by the Americanism Committee at each Spring Trustee's Meeting for the upcoming fall school year.  The contest will be judged at the National Congress each year.

 

1st Place - $300 Savings Bond; 

2nd Place - $200 Savings Bond;

3rd Place - $100 Savings Bond.

Patriotic Recognition Fire Service
For exceptional service by fire service, emergency response, and fire insurance person.

Patriotic Recognitiom Law Enforcement

For exceptional service by police, state troopers, and officers of the courts.

For outstanding bravery and self-sacrifice in the face of imminent danger.

Flag Certificate

For citizens who regularly and properly display the Flag of the United States

SAR Daughters of Liberty Medal

Presented to a lady in appreciation for her unselfish devotion, tireless efforts and assistance to the SAR, and who has dedicated her time, energy, ability and/or finances to the organization in support and furtherance of the stated objectives of the National Society, SAR.

SAR Medal of Appreciation

Presented to a member of the DAR in good standing in recognition of and in appreciation for outstanding services rendered to the SAR. 

Martha Washington Medal

Presented to a woman over 18 years of age in recognition of outstanding service to SAR.

Outstanding Citizenship Award Lapel Pin

Presented to deserving students in recognition of high ideals of character and citizenship.
